Friends On a Powder Day

Adam Jaber January 13, 2023

Friends On a Powder Day When I first learned to ski tour, I was working as a baker. My shift started at 6am, which meant I couldn’t join my friends for dawn patrol before they headed to the office. As I started the mixer, they started climbing. By the time the sourdough had finished its first rise, my friends were farming freshies, their hoots and hollers practically echoing in my mind. Missing out on those epic powder runs felt devastating. It was all so new to me—I hadn’t yet learned that there will always be another powder day.  Last winter, […]

What’s a Din Setting – Your Favorite Skier’s Din Setting

Adam Jaber January 12, 2023

What’s a Din Setting – Your Favorite Skier’s Din Setting Let me start off by saying, THIS IS IN NO WAY A RECOMMENDATION FOR YOU TO GO AND SET UP YOUR OWN BINDINGS. See a professional. If you’ve wondered why your ski shop is so anal about getting you Boot Sole Length, your height, your weight, your age, and your skier type, it’s because those are the factors that go into reading a DIN chart. These charts are designed to give a ski tech the answers to the question of your DIN setting.  Everyone likes to flex their DIN setting, […]

What Skis Does Santa Claus Ride?

Charlie Walker December 12, 2022

What Ski Does Santa Claus Ride? We all know about the reindeer and the sleigh. But, what planks are jolly ole St. Nick clipping into when it’s time for him to slay downhill on Christmas Eve? It’s probably not something with a touring binding. He’s got Christmas magic to take care of the uphill. And he obviously doesn’t mess around with a tele ski. The dude means business and firmly puts his boots and heels where they belong, on the skis. Speed is definitely going to be the main focus when picking out a ski for Santa. He’s literally racing […]

SheJumps and The Snowpack Scholarship

Charlie Walker October 18, 2022

SheJumps For those unfamiliar, SheJumps is a phenomenal non-profit in the outdoor space. Started in 2007, their simple mission, was to increase the participation of women and girls in outdoor activities. Before inclusivity was the buzzword term it is today, they were out here, getting girls gassed up to enjoy nature, by creating safe, educational outdoor experiences for females that nurture growth, & transformation. The Snowpack Scholarship They do this through a wide variety of programs including outdoor education, fundraising climbs, community initiative, and a river school and alpine school. SheJumps also started something called the Snowpack Scholarship. Now in […]

An OoC Review: Grand Trunk Evolution Down 20 Hammock

Adam Jaber October 18, 2022

An OOC REVIEW: Grand Trunk’s Down Hammock Offers a Sleeping Bag Alternative Above the Ground. All summer and into this fall, I’ve been testing the Grand Trunk Evolution Down 20 Hammock. Testing a down hammock in the summer might sound a bit ridiculous, but there have been cold nights, and there have been scalding nights, and I intend to give you the full picture. The Gear – Grand Trunk Evolution Down 20 Hammock, $299 U.S The Highlights – Okay, so let me start by saying, I generally hate hammocks. There, we got that out of the way. The 20-degree rated […]

An OoC Review: Elan Ripstick Tour 104 Ski

Adam Jaber October 4, 2022

Elan Ripstick Tour 104 The Elan Ripstick Tour is a fresh take on an already successful ski line and marks an expansion into the touring category for the Slovenian brand. Sizes: (166, 173, 180, 187) Width: 104 | Radius: 23 (@ 180) Price: $799 MSP Category: Touring Claimed Weight: 1540 grams (@180)   My Take: This is the most alarming touring ski of 2022/23. Honestly, I thought it would be terrible. At first glance, it just looked like a lighter, more fragile Ripstick. I’m seldom happy about being wrong, but this is my confession of glee. Elan has had an […]
