THE EVENT

Last Thursday, December 5th, 2024, the Out of Collective made its way to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to attend and be a part of a world record – the most amount of people skiing in jeans on one resort. 2023 was the first year that JHMR organized a “Jeans Day,” and nevertheless that was a record-setting event with 3,114 skiers adorned in their finest denim. 2024 proved to up the ante, smashing the previous first-year record. But before we talk about a day of records, we should backtrack and give some context on the four days we had in Jackson.

The Stay

We hopped on the plane from Boston to Denver to Jackson, fully kitted in the best denim. A 3:00 am ET wake-up call to a 2:00 pm MT touchdown, there were still a couple of hours to get in some laps. By 4:00 pm we had skied 15k of vert and mozied over to our hotel in town, the Modern Mountain Hotel. It perfectly sits at the base of Snow King Mountain for some super easy access to quick laps, and it is less than a 5-minute walk to the heart of Jackson with ample amounts of restaurants and shopping. The outdoor and indoor pools/hot tubs were a treat after a long travel day and the room itself was beautiful – it was designed to make it as easy as possible to store your clothes, skis, and ski gear all in separate areas. After, a quick shower led into a near sprint to dinner at Code Red Restaurant where Mexican flavors, including classic and unique taco presentations, pozole in four varieties, authentic pastries, hearty burritos, and more, sit alongside robust cocktail and craft beer programs from Jackson Hole breweries Roadhouse Brewing Co and Melvin Brewing Co. The folks at Code Red were awesome and after a beer and tacos the 3:00 am wake-up and long travel day caught up with us. Back to the hotel to get ready for the big day.

THE JEANS

I guess the big question really is, if you had to ski in denim would you go tight or loose? These are the questions that need to be asked when looking to smash world records. Upon arrival to the mountain at 9:00 am, the answer to that question seemed to vary in unexpected ways – there were skinny jeans, baggy jeans, jean jackets, jean shirts, custom denim one-pieces, assless chaps, Canadian tuxedos, and any other denim combo you could imagine. Pit Viper and Ripton held down the fort at the base right next to the denim counter that kept track of the day’s jean enthusiasts. Outside of cool jeans, some of the most interesting things seen all day were: the final boss of backpack speakers (a legitimate subwoofer mounted to a snowboarder’s back), Caption of the JHAF Benny Wilson who could also be confused for Santa in jeans, the beautiful turn of a Faction monoski, and as previously mentioned, a singular assless chap. I have had nightmares since being back in New England about a bare ass sitting on a 15 degrees metal chairlift.

Anyways, at the end of the day JHMR broke the record for most people skiing in denim with a final count of 3,320. Thank you to JHMR for having us out and lending us the coolest Jeep Gladiator of all time to drive around for the week. Be sure to check out Modern Mountain Hotel and Code Red Restaurant if you’re thinking of traveling out there. Jackson, you’re amazing, we’ll see you next time.
