Out of Collective Podcast – E8 – Why Telemark Skiing is a Cult worth joining w/ AJ Cutler Adam X Sauerwein
I recently procured a pair of the coveted Apex Boots, from a follower actually. When they arrived, I immediately thought – these have to be the worst ski boot of all time. Not very scientific of me, but if it looks like junk, tastes like junk, it’s probably junk…right?
So with that said, here are some of the worst ski boots of all time. We’re not going to hit on a lot of the really old ones right now, but we’ll keep adding to the list as time goes on.
Somehow this thing manages to be the worst, but also the best, all because of this iconic commercial. This seems like an add that Pit Viper would be making now. That Rossignol marketing crew really had the secret sauce. I won’t embed the video but here’s the commercial – warning – hairy men, and masochistic activities are inside.
Whether it was bad because it was basically just a buckle version of the current apex boot, because it got wet, or because what the actually heck is this thing, I don’t know. But bad, very bad.
Oh brother, thank god we’re not doing this still. Can you imagine what this nonsense would ski like? Actually, now that I think of it, anyone got one they want to sell us?
What an absolute go-getter whoever designed Nordica boots in the early 2000s was. They did so many bad things, even
as far forward as 2010, but somehow they dubbed themselves “King of Boots” and actually had some mild success that exploded when Speedmachine was re-launched. Current success aside, the internet never forgets.
I mean, again, I’d try em. These monstrosities should have been outlawed, skiing is cumbersome enough without worrying about slipping on your knee-highs.
Since we actually own a pair – I’m going to leave these off the official list until I actually ski them. That being said, remember, one glance at them caused me to write this article.
