Pod Recap – The Pursuit – E47 – Olympic Mogul Skiing w/Hannah Soar

Mr. AdamX is back with another episode of The Pursuit. He’s fighting through some old man sciatica, but if Brody Leven can suffer through 65 laps to win Last Skier Standing then The Pursuit must go on! In all seriousness though, if you haven’t heard about this year’s Last Man Standing, head on over to Ski The Whites and also listen to this week’s episode of The Out Of Bounds podcast. Brody is an inspiration as are most of the lunatics in that race. Speaking of inspiration, (hello segway!) Adam X’s guest this week is Hannah Soar from the US Olympic Mogul Team. Hannah is fresh off a 7th place finish in Beijing and to celebrate, all she wanted to do was come on the pod. So congrats Hannah, dreams do come true. Now on with the recap!

Hannah Soar

The 22-year-old east coast native, made her Olympic debut in Women’s moguls last week in Beijing. When I think moguls, I think bumps. But it’s so much more than that. It’s actually judged in three parts; Turns (50%), Airs (25%), and Speed (25%). So you really have to be a triple threat all in one event. Maybe even more challenging, navigating the mental gymnastics of a sport where some of the toughest competition in the world is on your own team. How do you root for and against your best friends at the same time? Hannah seems to have found that line on and off the slopes.

AdamX and Hannah chat about a lot. They talk about pandemic life leading up to the Olympics and trying to control the uncontrollable. And they discuss doping and the 1000’s of banned substances. Hannah even had to be careful in the Olympic dining hall. Checking everything by her trainers from icy hot to daily snacks. Oh and they even talk moguls. The progression of the sport has been insane, especially on the women’s side. It’s gone from 360s and a backflip to cork 1080s. And this is in four years from one Olympics to the next. We also get an inside look at the Olympic mindset, what making the team, qualifying, and finishing top 7th feels like, from someone who was just there. Can’t get a fresher take than what Hannah shares in this interview. We’re proud of you Hannah! And we’re proud of this episode, so give it a full listen and give us a gold medal review! Cheers!
