Out of Bounds – E203 – Michelle Parker

Welcome back to the Out of Collective for a freshly brewed episode of The Out of Bounds Podcast. More taste, less filling, and only 90 calories per podcast. This week we’re refilling our glass with another serving of Michelle Parker. Yes, ski season is over for almost everyone, except those nuts who enjoy tiny white ribbons of death. But, Michelle is not back on the show to talk skiing. Turns out, she is just as rad on two wheels. She and Adam talk mountain biking, photography, Red Bull, hats, and more! So drink up and take it all in. Recap and full episode below!

Michelle Parker

No one puts Michelle Parker in a corner. She is such a passionate athlete, ambassador, and person. So, it’s no surprise she gives her all in everything she does, not just skiing. Episode kicks off with her sharing her influences and background in photography. And while she might not be getting paid for snapping film, she’s not above going hard and repelling down rocks to capture just the right angles.

Though she’s been biking for ten years, she still considers herself fairly new to it. Maybe just because it comparison to her pro ski career, it seems that much shorter. But she’s thrown herself all in, attacking races as if she were a pro and this was her only jam. List of entries includes some pretty gnarly races; Rebecca’s Private Idaho, Death Ride in Tahoe, and Trans Cascadia in the PNW. These are grueling 100 mile plus races in world class terrain.

Michelle was also recently attended Redbull Formation event in Utah. Though not one of the 12 women on the roster, she was sill fully in the mix. What is Formation? This is maybe the rowdiest freeride mountain biking event out there, and the women’s only event, is only in the 3rd year. The progression ladies like Hannah Bergemann are making is insane. Being separate from the men’s Rampage event, shines the spotlight solely on the best women on bikes, but at this rate women will a part of Rampage in the very near future.

What’s Next?

What’s next? Not just for Michelle but for the women’s side of biking. She and Adam get into the basics of actually getting paid, marketing, contracts and more. For things to really progress in the sport, people need to be able to commit fully, and hard to do when the only support you’re getting is a free bike. They also talk marketing, athlete support, social media, and how fucking dumb Tik Tok is.

Find more from Michelle, @myshellparker all over the social medias and enjoy the full episode above and below. Enjoy and see ya next time!
