For those unfamiliar, SheJumps is a phenomenal non-profit in the outdoor space. Started in 2007, their simple mission, was to increase the participation of women and girls in outdoor activities. Before inclusivity was the buzzword term it is today, they were out here, getting girls gassed up to enjoy nature, by creating safe, educational outdoor experiences for females that nurture growth, & transformation.
They do this through a wide variety of programs including outdoor education, fundraising climbs, community initiative, and a river school and alpine school. SheJumps also started something called the Snowpack Scholarship. Now in it’s fifth year, the program focuses on offering women free avalanche education by providing AIARE Level 1 courses at no cost. Originally at 30 scholarships, this year they expanded up to 84 scholarships across the US and Canada.
SheJumps doesn’t just get women involved in the outdoors. They’re making sure they are doing it the right way. Safety and Education are key cornerstones to anyone looking to get outdoors. Doing this at no cost helps break down barriers; particularly women of color, and those economically challenged who have not traditionally had the same access, resources and opportunities to get outside. This program allows more women to pursue careers, their passions, and goals in our community.
Simply put, SheJumps is rad, and things like the Snowpack Scholarship are a huge deal.
