Coffee and Van Chats – E107 – Ashton Lambie Unbound Preview

What’s going on guys, welcome back to another pod recap of Coffee and Van Chats on the Out of Collective Network. This week John Croom welcomes back, long-time friend and teammate Ashton Lambie to the pod. They chat about all things Unbound. If he’ll go to space because his amazing partner is an astronaut? And who do both these guys think will conquer Unbounded!

Rain, Space, and More Unbound!

While we dedicate another episode to Ashton Lambie’s career and get to know him, the real focus is this weekend’s Unbound gravel race. Garmin presents Unbound, “The World’s Premiere Gravel Event”, in Emporia, Kansas, June 2-5. And this event is something both Ashton and John definitely know a little something about. Formerly known as the Dirty Kanza, Ashton won the 100 mile event in 2019 and John placed 3rd last year. In addition to the 100, the race also has courses for 50 mile, 200 and the insane XL which is 350 miles!

Rain, heat, and mud will play a big factor in all the divisions this weekend. And just finishing is a huge accomplishment in these conditions. The list of riders on the start list is stacked. Ashton has his eyes on Keegan Swenson, and John’s picking Russ Finsterwald to come out on top once all said and done.

And while Unbound is an out of this world gravel event, what’s this other space talk about?! Ashton recently moved to Houston, as his partner, Christina Birch is training to be an actual legit astronaut. Oh ya she’s also an 11x national champ cyclist and bioengineer.
