We’ve got two great guests this week —
First up is Hilary McCloy, who’s a reoccurring guest on the Out of Bounds Podcast. Hilary, a former member of the US Ski Team, is now a Physical Therapist who resides in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. In this episode, Hilary discusses springtime in the Tuckerman Ravine, and her online running program, Run Strong.
During the second half of the program, we chat with Sean McDowell — a veteran in the shoe industry with over 22 years of experience who’s launched products like Nike’s Air Max Plus 1, which sold over 9 million units worldwide. Now the Head of Design over at Sperry who are introducing their Sperry Sport collection.
Gosh, I hate running, luckily there is people out there like Hilary to set me up for a slightly better running “season.” We talk about body fatigue, running from an athlete’s perspective dealing with the vulnerability that comes with aging, and how to confront that through better — smarter exercise to make sure you’re still getting out there as much as possible.

Are you a sneakerhead? Do you love all things footwear and clothing design? Then you’ll want to listen in to this episode as I talk with Sean McDowell, shoe industry extraordinaire and Head of Design at Sperry. We hit on design inspiration (how could whales and sunsets inform sneaker design?), leaks in the industry and the corresponding legal action, working with Kobe Bryant, designing the spiderman costume for Tobey Maguire, and much, much more.
“There are really subtle differences between the biggest wins and a colossal failure and sometimes it’s just a hair, or a couple degrees off” – Sean McDowell
