Lauren MacLeod is a registered dietician nutritionist that specializes in outdoor sports nutrition. With special interests in combating diet culture, eating disorders and disordered eating amongst outdoor athletes, we scratch the surface of what this looks like in our communities. Within the outdoor industry, body ideals manifest themselves in clothing offerings, mountain town cultures, brand marketing, etc. Hopefully this episode offers some “food for thought” to help shape the ways that we define an athlete, what we consider to be fit, and how we associate decisions with food.

LOVE this as an episode topic. I used to live in the lower Columbia Gorge where skiing, wind sports, trail running, hiking, all the things were super popular. Someone once said, “this is like living in a Patagonia commercial” and they were right – super fit people, super active people and those who wanted to have a good time. I’m currently in school to change careers into dietetics and this is a huge issue of my own concern because I want to work with ED patients who are transitioning to outpatient treatment. Thank you so much for bringing it up!!!
